What are the benefits of going to an HBCU?

This is just a general post. I didn't go to one on purpose.(thats another thread) But for those that did go, what were the pros, what were the cons? If you could do it all over again would you still choose the same school?

I go to a normal University and typically, I'm the only black boy in the room, I'm not even fully black either. Where I am now, there's usually a room full of white people, a white teacher, and me, the dark one with the long hair.


My bestfriend was dead set on attending FAMU specifically for the atmosphere, to be around other people just like him. One advantage I see is blending in with people who more than likely share a common interest with you.

The more years attended the better.. depends on what kinda degree you get.. I'd rather a master's Degree.. then a one year harvard student.

Pros: Partying, More people to be in common with, heavy school spirit, teaches you more off campus as well as on, no fights, teaches you how to have social skills, IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!

Cons: Messiness, Black people puttin down plack people, Robberies, Slandering, Greeks are treated like gods (which is maybe a good or bad thing), EVERY ORGANIZATION HAS A "PROCESS" SIMILAR TO PLEDGING if you know what i mean. E.G Marching Band, Modeling Troupe, Dance Troupe, Gospel Choir.... not as diverse although there are plenty of Whites n etc. at HBCU's
